A Theatre educator for 15 years, Lisa Dyer earned a BA in Theatre Arts and Communications as well as a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech.  During her tenure at J.R. Tucker High School, Dyer has directed more than 50 musicals, plays, and one acts.  Dyer also wrote “Apolitical- A Debate” which was performed at VTA in 2017 and co-wrote “Deleted”, a one act that premiered at the Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland.  In 2015, her students were nominated for the Freedom of Expression Award by Amnesty International for their performance of “My Mania”, at the Fringe.  In addition to directing and writing, Dyer has performed with Opera Roanoke, The Blacksburg Summer Arts Festival, and the Richmond Festival of the Arts at Dogwood Dell, as well as ComedySportz.  Currently, Dyer is focusing on encouraging students to devise and write original works that reflect their point of view as well as empower students to use theatre as a tool for social justice.  Dyer is member of VTA, AATE, and ITS.
